  • Description

A crucial element in advancing the digital transformation within a specialist environment, the Scrum Master will facilitate the sustainable self-organisation of a software and data solution team managing biological substances and sample tracking tools. Tasked with ensuring the framing and execution of Agile principles in a hybrid work set-up, this role supports the seamless delivery of a centralised platform that spans multiple integrated applications and APIs. Through promoting transparency, continuous inspection, and collaborative adaptation, the successful candidate will drive efficiency across interdependent streams while liaising effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

This role exists to embed Scrum frameworks within a team that has recently transitioned to a product mode of operation, integrating business ownership with product ownership and stream leadership. The Scrum Master will be instrumental in orchestrating the agile rituals—such as Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Refinements, Reviews, and Retrospectives—to maintain alignment and momentum. By facilitating communication flows and dependency management, the individual will remove internal and external impediments that could undermine team performance, thereby enhancing delivery cadence and fostering multidisciplinary teamwork.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include preparing and animating the core Scrum ceremonies, ensuring they add value and promote focused collaboration. The Scrum Master will support the team’s evolution toward a self-managed unit capable of sustaining agile practices autonomously. Another key function is nurturing a culture of open communication and accountability, assisting in synchronising with other teams where dependencies exist. This activity requires a nuanced understanding of agile frameworks and an ability to adapt facilitation techniques to suit a complex, technology-driven environment that operates partly on-site with at least two days a week at designated locations.

The technology environment underpinning this role is centred on web-based applications designed for managing biological workflows and data sets, encompassing platforms developed in-house and supported through APIs. The Scrum Master will thus operate within a context where technical understanding supports the elimination of blockers and fosters iterative product development cycles. The role demands a pragmatic approach to the adoption and enforcement of Agile methodologies, including Scrum as the core framework, with Kanban, Lean, and SAFe experience providing additional depth.

Working at 50% part-time commitment, this contract position offers continuity through renewable three-month engagements, starting immediately. The role requires fluency in English due to the international scope of the project. Candidates will find themselves contributing to a mission-critical software solution supporting research activities that rely on precise data handling and sample management.

Candidates should possess a minimum of five years’ experience working in an Agile environment, with at least three years dedicated to the Scrum Master role. Prior exposure to the responsibilities of a Product Owner is highly valued, reflecting the close interplay between product vision and delivery within this team. Certifications such as PSM I/II or CSM are desirable indicators of professional expertise and commitment to Agile standards. Proficiency in running facilitation workshops employing methodologies like Design Thinking and User Story Mapping will complement the ability to guide the team toward collaborative problem-solving and innovative outcomes.

This role’s hybrid working arrangement requires a presence on-site for around two days each week at locations near Saclay or Suresnes, ensuring critical face-to-face interaction while supporting flexibility. The successful Scrum Master will find themselves embedded within a productive setting that balances agile discipline with the challenges of managing complex dependencies across multiple solution streams.

The position is within the information technology and services sector, specialising in software solutions that enable advanced data management for research purposes. The contract nature of the role supports a focused engagement aligned precisely with the evolving needs of the project, offering a professional environment where agile expertise directly influences technical and operational success.
