Description
We are seeking a Process Engineering Manager who is responsible for providing overall technical direction for the Process department. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Process Engineering Manager will lead a team of disciplined engineers to execute Air Separation Industrial Gases projects safely and efficiently throughout the proposal, engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup phases. This position will be based in Bethlehem, PA but will require travel to plant locations throughout the region.
Responsibilities include:
Lead the design, optimization, and performance of world-scale cryogenic air separation plants supporting critical industries.
Organize and manage the daily activities of the process engineering and process system discipline group and steward continuous improvement in quality and technical excellence.
Review customer inquiries and analyze costs and benefits of various process solutions and select optimum design cases for the system and the equipment.
Perform process simulations, develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat and Material Balances (H&MBs), calculate pressure drops, power and utility consumptions, and products estimates.
Size Air Separation Process Equipment (e.g., distillation columns, heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, PPU, tanks, cooling towers, etc.) and develop process data sheets and specifications.
Develop equipment list, line sizes, and material selection list.
Participate in P&IDs development, HAZOP, plant commissioning and start-up, technical risk analysis, safety, and environmental assessments.
Review vendor documentation and drawings to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.
Accountable for the development, implementation, and analyzation of the plant process performance tests.
Provide technical guidance for plant operations and assist with plant troubleshooting and investigations.
Stay current with state-of-the-art industrial gas tools, design practices, process safety and process technologies.
Development of department best practices, processes, procedures, and tools as well as the continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsible for the department operations covering hiring, training, developing, setting goals, appraising teammates, identifying skill gaps, and ensuring UIG achieves industry leading technical excellence.
Occasionally represent UIG as senior technical leader in appropriate industry groups such as CGA, AIChemE, and others as necessary.
What You’ll Need
B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
Minimum 10 years of experience in the Cryogenic Air Separation in an industrial gas company.
Extensive work experience leading state of the art process cycle development and selection and creating process simulations using mainstream process simulators such as UniSim and gPROMS.
Extensive work experience developing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat and Material Balances (H&MBs), process specifications and data sheets of major process equipment, line sizing, power and utility consumption calculations.
Able to work with minimal supervision, prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
Nice to Have
15+ years of experience in the Cryogenic Air Separation industry.
Non-Cryogenic Adsorption Air Separation experience.
Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
Advanced Process Control experience.
Foreign language capability: Spanish, Chinese
