Job Description

Driving data-led decision-making within a complex manufacturing environment, the Senior Systems Engineer will serve as a pivotal analytics partner to business stakeholders. This role exists to bridge the gap between business objectives and analytical insight, enhancing performance by developing clear, impactful reporting frameworks supported by Power BI and advanced data visualisation techniques in an Azure cloud environment. By shaping how data is translated into actionable knowledge, the successful candidate will influence strategic decisions, risk management, and operational improvements across multiple business areas.

Rather than simply recreating existing manual reports, the role focuses on challenging and evolving business queries to uncover deeper insights and improve overall data literacy. Through facilitating workshops and collaborative sessions, the engineer will help define relevant KPIs, metrics, and business rules that feed into scalable and consistent business intelligence (BI) solutions. This ensures that reporting outputs not only meet immediate needs but also align with broader enterprise data strategies.

A significant part of the position involves translating complex, often multifaceted business demands into structured BI specifications. This includes detailed articulation of security requirements, data definitions, calculations, and expected outcomes that will inform report design. The Senior Systems Engineer will lead on larger and more complex enterprise BI initiatives, coordinating across functions to maintain alignment and encourage the adoption of standardised metrics. Experience working as an analytics partner in cross-functional settings will be important, especially where guidance on BI tools, dashboarding, and data visualisation has improved decision-making processes. Knowledge of Power BI features and Azure integration is essential to drive the technical aspects of the role confidently.

Manufacturing within the machinery sector provides the context for this position, where technology-enabled data analytics support continuous business improvement and operational excellence.
