Revolent · AI Forward Deployed Engineer Programme
You already ship production software. Now ship it at the frontier of AI.
An eight-week, fully paid programme that turns proven engineers into AI Forward Deployed Engineers — trained by Revolent, then placed on-site with a world-leading AI lab. No AI or ML background required.

The opportunity
Building the AI was never the hard part. Deploying it is.
Models work in the demo. Making them work inside a real business — messy data, sceptical stakeholders, production constraints — is where most enterprise AI stalls. The Forward Deployed Engineer is the role that closes that gap: the person who embeds with a customer and ships AI that actually lands. It’s one of the fastest-growing, best-paid roles in technology, and the world’s leading AI companies need it to scale safe, effective deployment. This programme is your route into it.
The role, in plain terms
What you'd actually do
You embed directly with an AI lab’s most strategic enterprise customers, building production AI applications, not demos. Day to day, that’s four things.
01 · Discover
Run technical discovery
Sit with the customer’s engineers and map the workflows, data and constraints that matter.
02 · Build & ship
Ship into live systems
Put production artefacts, agents, tool integrations, evaluation frameworks — into the customer’s real environment.
03 · Evaluate & fix
Prove it, then harden it
Design evaluation frameworks and troubleshoot live issues, often with the customer watching.
04 · Feedback
Close the loop
Share what you learn with product and engineering, so the next customer benefits.
The programme
Eight weeks. Seven shippable artefacts. One field-ready engineer.
Full-time and intensive. Every week ends in something built, evaluated and defensible — you leave with a deployed, documented portfolio, not a badge.

Capstone before a senior exec panel
P1
10%
AI & LLM foundations
What these systems can do and how they fail.
P2
20%
GenAI & agentic engineering
Reliable systems on non-deterministic models: retrieval, agents, tool use.
P3
20%
Evaluation, observability & safety
Prove it works, catch it failing, defend it to a risk function.
P4
15%
Production deployment & LLMOps
Run, scale and cost it in, inside the client’s environment.
P5
15%
Customer discovery & scoping
Find the real problem; size the smallest credible system.
P6
15%
Stakeholder trust & commercial acumen
Land probabilistic systems with sceptical buyers.
Certification is built in: an industry-recognised AI architecture certification during the programme, and leading cloud AI certifications afterwards.
Cómo funciona
A career pathway — not a course you pay for.
1
You join Revolent
From day one you’re a paid Revolent employee — salary and training funded, not just placement.
2
Eight-week training
Complete the programme and leave with a deployed, evaluated, documented capstone portfolio.
3
Placed on-site
Embed with a world-leading AI lab’s Applied AI team — while remaining a Revolent employee.
4
Prove it on site
Strong performance is the basis for a permanent offer from the AI lab — the intended outcome, not a guarantee.
5
Convertir
Move into a full-time role with the AI lab.
The commitment — stated plainly
There’s a two-week trial: leave in the first fortnight with no fee. After that, if you leave before your agreed placement period, you repay the value of the training you’ve received — a schedule set out in your employment agreement, not a flat fee, walked through with you before you commit. Revolent funds your training, certification and salary from day one; this protects that investment and is standard across Revolent pathways.
Who we’re looking for
Does your profile fit?
A senior software or data engineer, tech lead or engineering lead with 5+ years’ experience, proven production ability, and a track record of delivering through and with others. No AI/ML background required — we train the AI layer.
You’re a strong fit if you’ve…
- shipped systems that survived contact with real users
- led people, projects or workstreams — not only as an individual contributor
- managed clients, executives or risk/compliance functions directly
- argued in money, not just code — business cases, ROI, scope, change control
- asked why a system is being built, not just how
- production-grade Python, Git discipline, REST/JSON APIs and auth patterns
- shipped to a major cloud platform; comfortable with containers and messy real-world data
Probably not the right fit
- Recent graduates — insufficient engineering judgement, yet
- Pure research scientists — wrong centre of gravity
- Non-technical consultants — the hands-on bar is non-negotiable
- Strong individual contributors with no leadership, delivery or commercial track record
Earning & career
Paid from day one — and progression is fast by design.
You’re paid a competitive salary from the day you start, right through training. As an FDE, strong performers become visible quickly — the work is high-stakes and highly valued, and total compensation grows substantially with seniority, with equity a growing share at senior levels.
Indicative total compensation (US market, confirmed at offer): entry-level FDE from the low-to-mid six figures; senior / staff levels considerably higher. Figures vary by market and are set out in your offer.
- Ingeniero de despliegue avanzado
- Senior / Principal FDE
- Head of Applied AI · People leadership
- Global Architecture Lead · Technical track
The process
Five stages, each built to mirror real FDE work.
1
60 mins
Recruiter screen
Your background — leadership, delivery and commercial experience alongside your technical CV.
2
4-6 hrs
Take-home build
A working service over a deliberately messy dataset, plus a one-page brief for a non-technical stakeholder.
3
60 mins
Take-home defence
We dig into your decisions — what breaks at 100×, where the security holes are — then extend it live.
4
75 mins
Solution design
An open-ended customer scenario: discovery first, then design across cost, risk and ROI.
5
75 mins
Deep dive
Live coding and architecture Q&A, closing on leadership and delivery scenarios from your own experience.
You’ll typically hear back within three weeks of your final stage, and every candidate receives substantive feedback — whatever the outcome.
Earning & career
En honest answers
Do I need AI or ML experience?
No. If you can ship production software, we add the AI layer during the programme.
Am I paid during training?
Yes — you’re a Revolent employee from day one, with salary and training funded.
Is the permanent role guaranteed?
No. Placement is part of the pathway, and a permanent offer is the intended outcome based on your on-site performance — not a guarantee.
What's the commitment?
A two-week, no-fee trial, then a training-cost repayment if you leave before your agreed placement period. Your Talent Acquisition contact walks you through the exact terms before you commit.
Where is it based, and is there travel?
Placement is on-site with the customer’s team, and travel to customer sites is part of the role. Specifics are confirmed during the process.
Ready to find out if this is you?
Two minutes tells you whether your background fits. If it does, you’ll go straight into the application.
